THIS IS FOR YOU

If you've ever sat down to write a song and felt like you were building a house without a blueprint — this masterclass is for you.

Most musical theatre writers struggle with the same two things. They start writing before they know what the song is really about. They follow their instincts, hope something sticks, and end up with a song that wanders — or worse, one they abandon halfway through because they've lost the thread.

And it's not a talent problem. It's a process problem.

In this free live session, I'm going to teach you the two things that have changed the way every writer I've worked with approaches their songs.

First: how to find your hook. Not a catchy line. Not a clever lyric. The hook is the center of gravity for the entire song — the one idea everything else orbits around. When you know how to find it, every decision you make after that gets easier.

Second: song mapping. Before you write a single lyric, you'll know exactly what each section of your song needs to do. The A Sections, the B Section — every moment will have a job.

You'll never stare at a blank page the same way again.

By the end of this session you'll have something you can use the next time you sit down to write.

This is the same process that has helped my students:

— Write musicals with two sold-out runs in Brussels

— Get commissioned to score two full productions

— Get accepted into NYU Tisch's Graduate Program for Musical Theatre Writing

— Get selected for NAMT, one of the most prestigious musical theatre showcase festivals in the country

It's free. It's live. And there are limited spots on the Zoom. Save your seat below.

Your Host:

Brett Boles

I've spent more than two decades inside the craft of musical theatre songwriting — as a writer, a teacher, and someone who has worked with serious writers at every level of their journey.

670,000 people follow my breakdowns of musical theatre songs online. But my favorite thing isn't breaking down what's already been written.

It's helping writers find what's already inside them — and giving them the tools to get it onto the page.

This masterclass is the clearest distillation of what I teach. I can't wait to share it with you.
